Christmas Fishing news from Courtmac
 Posted: 20th December 2006

With the weather finally improving, and slack winds forecast, Dan Lynch organized a 2-boat Wreck Competition from Courtmacsherry on 20 December. It was great to get out again as the whole month of November with strong southerlys led to a lot of cancellations. The vessels, the Lady Louise and the Lady Patricia, left the Pier at Courtmacsherry at 8am and after a two hour trip were fishing on the offshore wrecks.

A slight Southeasterly breeze with clear skies made conditions pleasant. Drifting was not producing any takes so we deceided to anchor up and have a go at the congers. We landed 16 congers, Ling, Cod and 1 Specimen coalfish weighing in at 17.10lbs caught by Paul O' Callaghan on a mackerel strip.

The Specimen book just published makes interesting reading with 73 Specimens recorded for Courtmacsherry alone which included Coalfish, Cod, Conger, Dab, Mullet, Dogfish, Pouting, Bass, Flounder and Ling. Most of the Specimens were recorded by Dutch anglers but other nationalities included Irish, French, Belgian and English anglers.

October International Angling Competition Results
 Posted: 2nd October 2006

The annual October International Angling Competition was held at Courtmacsherry on 28 October.

The format was the same as last year, fishing with teams of 5 where wrecking was the prefered method, weather permitting. Conditions were poor on the day so we fished a Species Competition in the bay.

10 Teams from Holland, Belgium, Luxemburg, England and several Irish teams fished. The prize-giving was held at the Anchor bar in Courtmacsherry and in first place with a combined score of 5,043 pts was Pat Condon's Warriors which included Pat Condon(Captain), Ken Hegarty, Mike Hennessy and brothers Ken and Ian Murphy. They were presented with a cheque for 1,000 euro sponsored by Courtmacsherry Angling Centre and the Waterford Glass Perpetual trophy by Trish Gannon.

In second place were the Big Cannons who included Kit Dunne, Martin Kennedy, Paul Robinson, Steve Guest and Liam O Cllaghan and were presented with 250 euro. Third place was Gerry Carey, John Higgins, Paul Ross, Bob O'Brien and Adrian Finn.

In the Individual points section, Ken Hegarty took the honours with 1,482 pts, 2nd was Ian Murphy, 3rd Paul Robinson and 4th Steve Guest.

The best overseas angler went to Geoff Thompson with 1,014 pts and the Juvenile prize went to Frazer Kirkley from the UK.

On 29 Oct, the weather improved and we fished one of the inshore wrecks catching Pollack to 10lbs, Ling to 15lbs, cod to 9lbs and coalfish to 12lbs.

October Bass Fishing
 Posted: 5th October 2006

The weather is very broken at the moment with the east and south east winds making fishing difficult, mackerel are still plentiful with good shoals of joeys. Yesterday, 14th October, with a group led by Brian Mc Cabe from Dublin, we fished in the inner bay due to conditions. Conger, ling, dogfish, pollack and cod to 9lbs were caught.

Keeping the joeys alive in the tank we deceided to try for bass in the estuary from the moorings. We had good sucess last week on one session we landed 20 fish. We started fishing at 5.30pm, just before low water, and our optimism increased when we met Kevin Hanly who had on board, including a fine bass of 6lbs and returned another 4 fish using a spinner.

At 6.30 we had the first run but lost him, then landed a fine bass of 6lbs, lost another few but the minute the live mackerel were in the water the bass were taking and running like hell. The next fish landed was a fine Specimen of 10.5lbs, the first Specimen bass landed from the Lady Louise. The tally was 4 fish landed and 7 lost.

The captor of the Specimen was Michael McCabe from Darndale and was thrilled with his first Specimen.
