The Fishing
 

 Courtmacsherry offers the angler a wide variety of fishing - shark, bottom and wreck
fishing. In the bay one can catch:
 
  • Ling
  • Conger
  • Pollack
  • Coalfish
  • Cod
  • Bull huss
  • Dogfish
  • Thornback Ray
 
  • Skate
  • Electric ray
  • Cuckoo Wrasse
  • Ballan wrasse
  • Whiting
  • Haddock
  • Garfish
  • Mackerel
Tackle can be rented at reasonable rates, if required.
Further offshore, due to the effects of the Gulf Stream, sharks can be caught. All fish are tagged and released in the interests of conservation.
Wreck fishing is available and many wrecks are in close proximity to Courtmacsherry.


Some notable fish:

 

  •  Skate (215 cm x 155 cm)We catch at least 20 ton up skate  landed every season.
  •  Ling (48.5 lbs)Irish Record 2000 (Best day 69 boated)
  • Cod (33 lbs)
  • Conger (67lbs)
  •  Pollack (19lbs)Heaviest since 1904
  •  Coalfish (31lbs)Broke Irish Record twice.24 Specimens recorded on one day 2001.
  •  Shark (164 lbs)

The Specimen book has just been Published and while the Summer was the worst on record for bad weather the total no of Specimens landed at Courtmacsherry numbered 80.These 80 Specimen fish included ;Cod,Pollack,Conger,Coalfish,Dogfish,Dab and several Bass over the Specimen weight were returned.The breakdown was 51Coalfish,1 Conger,1 Dab,1 Dog,8Ling,13 Cod and 5 Pollack.Congrats to all the Specimen Captors,especially to Let Van Den Berg who was awarded the Best International angler award from Failte Ireland,and Gerard Van Der Vegt who this year attained 10 Specimen fish.A breakdown of the Specimens for Country included 56 Specimens for Holland,12 for Belgium,6 for Germany,and 2 for France.424 for Ireland and 28 for England.Most of the Specimens for Holland and Belgium and France were caught at Courtmacsherry.
But Courtmacsherry really hit the headlines in 2000 by smashing 2 Irish records which had been in existence for a total of 52 years. The 2 new Irish records were a ling of 48.5lbs and a coalfish of 27.6lbs.They were caught by Tony Sol from Amsterdam and John Tom from Rotterdam respectively.The Coalfish record was again broken by Charlie Robinson from the "Lady Louise "in  Nov 2002.

Other notable catches include blue shark to 2.25mtr, all skate and shark  are tagged and released.
