Courtmacsherry Angling actively supports the conservation and tagging programme administered by the Inland Fisheries Ireland.
The Aim of the organisation is to encourage anglers and skippers to tag many of the shark, skate and ray species around Irish coastal waters. The data gained from the tagging programme will give us useful insights into the species life history allowing for more effective management.
The latest recapture, tagged on the 22/07/2011 measuring total length 165 cm,was recaptured on the 2/11/2014 ,weighing 63kgs(139lbs)total length 210 cms in posn 1000km SW Cape Verde Islands, the shark was at liberty for 1199 days and had travelled a total of 5010 Kms.
Hopefully with the good shark fishing this summer,we can look forward to many more recaptures where the data will be put to good use by the scientists inthe Fisheries Board.
